Car seat cover

Hello everyone!

Today I want to share with you the car seat cover I made for the baby.

My car seat cover. (its sit on top of my gauze baby blanket I made)

It is reversible with a “peek-a-boo” front. I’ve seen many tutorials on Pinterest that show you how to make a plain one without the peek a boo. But I wanted to be able to check on the baby quickly without having to lift the cover.

IMG_1888Its was fairly easy to do. I started by measuring the length (from the front to the middle with the handle upright, then down the back) and width of the car seat,  I took into consideration the 1/2″ seams for the peek-a-boo and just added 1 inch to the width. My measurements were 36″W x 43″L. I  pinned both fabrics right side together, I used a large bowl to round out the corners, then I cut an 18″ slit up the middle and sewed it all together, I left an opening in the back to turn it inside out. IMG_1882

I did a straight stitch around it once more to close the open I had and to give it a polished look. I sewed on handles to the inside and outside of the cover with a heavy-duty needle (So it can be used on both sides) Then I hand sewed 2 hooks to be able to open and close the “peek-a-boo” slit. I can’t wait to be able to use it!! 🙂

Here’s a little preview of what we did

OK so here is a little preview of what we did in preparation for the baby shower last night. We stated of with having Pineapple upside down cake. ( I had been craving it for a few days)

Then we got to work on some simple things, like the napkins.

IMG_1822There will be red napkins with stamped on anchors

IMG_1821as will as the utensils wrapped in napkins and tied off with rope and a life saver

I also gave a special gift for my two hostess:

IMG_1798I made the one with the ruffles for my mom to use at a quniceanera she will be going to this month.IMG_1799

I made the one with the bow for my sister-in-law

IMG_1801In the inside I added nautical fabric, so that when they use it they will remember it was a token of my appreciation. I included some lotions and a card I made. They said they loved the clutch purses. 🙂  Sorry about the quality of the pictures I was using my phone when I made them.

There will be more things to come I just forgot to take more pictures (I don’t know where my mind is half the time with this pregnancy).

Feeling crafty

For Mother’s day my husband and kids got me a new Singer sewing machine (I sold my old one 2 years ago when we moved and regretted it ever since) The new one had been sitting in the “office room”, I couldn’t think of any projects to sew. But last week my mom approach me about choosing a theme I wanted for my baby shower.  Right away I choose a Nautical theme and the ideas started flowing in my mind with things I could do for the baby shower & the nursery. My mom and sister-in-law are limiting the things I can participate in the baby shower planing, so that I can be somewhat surprised 🙂 (I’m allowed to ‘pin’ things on my pinterest board). But they did let me make the invitations and a banner. We are meeting next week to finish some minor details and I will post some pictures.
